Welcome to the latest edition of At Your Leisure, your connection to leisure, recreation, venues and entertainment in the Southern Lakes.
Have Your Say! Lakes Leisure is currently working on the Queenstown Events Centre (QEC) Master Facilities (MFP) for the development of the indoor and outdoor facilities at QEC to help meet the growing demand for sports and recreation in our community. We are looking to consult with sports users and the wider community to get input on the proposed developments so we can provide Council with your feedback which they will consider during their Long Term Plan process. If you or anyone you know is interested in viewing the plan and giving us your feedback via a five question survey, please go to www.lakesleisure.co.nz/qec-mfp.html.
We thank you in advance for your feedback – it is essential to the success of this community consultation process.
Cheers,
Fiona McKissock CEO, Lakes Leisure

FREE OUTDOOR FITNESS CIRCUIT OPENING!
Come and help the Alpine Health & Fitness team and our Mayor, Vanessa van Uden, celebrate the opening of our new free community outdoor running & fitness circuit on Saturday 19 November at 10am. There’s two different circuits 1.5km and 1.1km long and 19 stations equipped with specialist outdoor strength equipment. We’ve even got beginner and advanced options so it’s suitable for all fitness levels. The circuit begins from the first car park on the left at the Queenstown Events Centre. Come on down to the official opening and take the opportunity to talk to one of our instructors about how the circuit can work for you!
GETTING ENOUGH CALCIUM LATELY? Bone is a living tissue which continues to be broken down and renewed throughout your life. However, after early adulthood the body starts to withdraw calcium and other minerals faster than it is depositing them, gradually causing your bones to thin. Early detection, from 25 years, is the key to prevention of suffering later from osteoporosis and fractures. It is not just older women that develop thin bones. If you think you might be short on calcium come and get a quick & painless scan of your heel done at Bone Denisty Clinic at Alpine Health & Fitness on Thursday 24 November to see how your bones are looking. The consultation and scan costs just $55 and appointments can be made by calling 03 450 9126.
WATERPOLO – NOW ON SUNDAY NIGHTS Water Polo has begun at Alpine Aqualand every Sunday between 6.30-8.00pm from now until Christmas with the Queenstown Water Polo Club! Entry cost is just standard pool entry ($3 for school students, $4.50 Seniors, $8 Adults) and all gear is provided by QWPC and Alpine Aqualand. Come along and give it a go– beginners to advance players are more than welcome. If you’ve got any questions, please call the organiser, Nigel Kerr on 0272 368 553.
ALPINE AQUALAND ENTRY Alpine Aqualand has always been free for spectators, but we have been encountering a few problems lately with spectators who swim! It’s a rate payer funded community facility so we need to make sure everyone is getting a fair deal hence we will be keeping a closer eye on our ‘spectators’ for a while. Please make sure if you intend to swim that you let reception know so they can charge you accordingly. Many thanks for your understanding.
