There’s heaps going on round here in the build up to Christmas! This weekend we’ve got the Jack and the Beanstalk Pantomime in Arrowtown and the Shotover Jet Christmas Spectacular at the Events Centre. On December 20, Aqualand Swim School is putting on a pool party to say Merry Christmas and thanks all their current swim students (Alpine Aqualand will be closed to the public on from 1-3pm - thanks for your understanding). On New Year’s Eve we’ve got the HRV Twenty/20 Cricket Otago vs Wellington coming to town. Plus heaps in between... So get amongst it and have a fabulous festive season!

JACK AND THE BEANSTALK PANTOMIME
December 9-10, Arrowtown Athenaeum Hall
The annual Arrowtown Christmas Pantomime is back - bring the kids along to this classic show presented by the Arrowtown Entertainers that’s sure to delight! Choose from three different show – Friday 6.30pm, Saturday 3.30pm and Saturday 6.30pm. Tickets are available from the Arrowtown Lakes District Museum or on the door. Adults $10, Children $5, Family $20 (2 adults, 2 children).

FRONTRUNNER SERIES FINAL
Saturday 10 December, 10am, Jack’s Point Clubhouse
The grand finale of Active QT’s Front Runner Series is taking place this coming Saturday 10 December. Choose from a 5km, 10km or 21km run (or a walk for the shorter events). Entry costs just $10/person for the 5km, $15/person for the 10km or $35/person for the half marathon. Come and support this awesome local event and there’s a chance of winning some great spot prizes too! SAFE BOATING FAMILY OPEN DAY
Sunday 11 December, 11-4pm, Frankton Marina
Calling all boaties & water users! Bring the kids and/or your boat along to Coastguard Queenstown’s Family Open Day to get your boat and life jackets checked out for free and learn some essential water safety tips. Aqualand Swim School staff will be there to lend a hand. There will also be a bouncy castle, sausage sizzle, prizes and free boat trips in the Coastguard boat – cool eh? SHOTOVER JET CHRISTMAS SPECTACULAR
Sunday 11 December, 4pm, Queenstown Events Centre
The famous Shotover Jet Christmas Spectacular returns to the Events Centre this Sunday 11 December at 4:00pm. Join friends, family and a cast of over 150 local performers as we celebrate the festive season as only Queenstown knows how. There will be special appearances by the cast of London Calling, Songstars winner Katie McNeil, and of course, Santa Claus! It’s bound to be a sellout so get your tickets soon! ALPINE AQUALAND CLOSED, Tuesday 20 December 1-3pm
Alpine Aqualand will be closed to the public from 1-3pm on 20 December due to the Aqualand Swim School end of year pool party – we apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused. If you’re a current Aqualand Swim School student your invitation & ticket will be given to you by your swim instructor in your next class. Pool party entry is free and will only be available to those with tickets. Parents of students please note the Aqualand Supervision Policy will apply at all times.

TWENTY/20 CRICKET: Otago Volts vs Wellington Firebirds

HRV Cup Twenty/20 Cricket is back - bigger and better than ever. This summer get up close and personal with the biggest names in world cricket, like Muttiah Muralitharan, Ross Taylor and Daniel Vettori. COME VISIT OUR QUEENSTOWN CHRISTMAS TREES
Next time you’re at the Queenstown Events Centre drop by our beautiful wishing tree and place a wish – it might just come true! We particularly like this wish by Hope, pictured right. This year the Santa’s Grotto is located at Smith City in the Remarkables Park Centre. Kids, pop in and vote on your favourite tree - Paddles the Polar bear has decorated one (pictured right) and he reckons it’s the best one there - but it’s your decision of course! HOLIDAY PROGRAMME AT QEC
Lakes Leisure’s Summer Holiday Programme is back, better than ever and enrolments are now open! Sessions designed for 5-12 year olds will be held from 19-23 December & 4-27 January. We offer a wide variety of activities sure to keep kids entertained such as Olympic Sports Day, Master Chef Comp, Eco-Extreme Day and Crazy Science Experiments - and much more! In a recent survey of programme parents, 100% said that their children enjoyed it, thought the programme was reasonably priced and would recommend it to others. SCHOOL HOLIDAY SWIM WEEKS
Alpine Aqualand’s Holiday Swim Week will be running from 19-23 December inclusive and Wanaka Community Pool’s will be running from 23-27 January. Our intensive swim weeks are a fantastic way to rapidly build your child’s swimming skills in a warm and encouraging environment and get them ready and safe for a summer by the lake. CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY HOURS
Queenstown Events Centre, Arrowtown Community Pool & Wanaka Community Pool will be closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. On Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve we will be closing at 5pm. YOUNG PHOTOGRAPHER COMPETITION Closes Friday 21 December
The QLDC photo competition with the theme “Our People, Our Place” is open to all kids school aged and below. QLDC is looking for photographs which celebrate the people and the places that our children love in this district. The single best illustration that represents what’s great about where we live, as chosen by Mayor van Uden, will win a brand new digital camera. The top 20-30 shots will be used to illustrate the Council’s 10-Year-Plan, and will go on display at Queenstown and Wanaka during the 10-Year-Plan consultation period in April. ADULT TRI SQUAD AT ALPINE AQUALAND
Our Adult Tri Squad will be taking a holiday from Tuesday 20 December, returning Thursday 5 January – Tuesdays & Thursdays at 6.30am until Thursday 5 April.
Pre-Paid Rates: If you pay for the 27 session term up front you’ll pay just $135 Members / $297 for Non-Members (equates to just $5/$11 per session!).

AQUAFIT AT WANAKA COMMUNITY POOL
Want to get moving, get active and have fun? Wanaka has just expanded AquaFit classes from three to four times a week with a new class on Monday at 8:00am with Ailsa. AquaFit is great for ages, abilities and body types as it’s a gentle and low impact way to get fit, strengthen muscles and improve flexibility. Classes are 45 minutes in length and cost just $5 per class including Wanaka Community Pool Entry. For detailed class times, click here.

ARROWTOWN POOL IS OPEN!
Arrowtown Memorial Pool is now open for the summer! Our 33m outdoor pool is open between 11am-1pm for lane swimming and from 1pm-6pm for free time every day until the end of February, except for the holiday period. Zumba @ Arrowtown Athenaeum Hall: Thursdays @ 6.30pm until December 15. Due to dwindling numbers this class won’t be back in January at this stage.

VENUE CLOSURES – 7-11 December
Queenstown Events Centre: Thu 7 – Sun 11 Dec: Main Auditorium & Climbing Wall are being used for Shotover Jet Remarkable Christmas Show. The Auditorium Change Rooms will also be closed on Sunday 11 December only.

BUSY PERIODS AT THE POOL
Alpine Aqualand: Tue 20 Dec, 1-3pm: All pools closed to the public for two hours due to the Aqualand Swim School End of Year Pool Party.
Alpine Aqualand: Sundays 6.30pm-8.30pm: The lap pool will no longer be available between now and Christmas due to the Queenstown Water Polo Club pool booking. Generally this will be from 6.30pm-8.30pm.
