Four Season Fitness Facility for Queenstown

Lakes Leisure is preparing to present a business case for Queenstown’s very first community-owned Health and Fitness Centre to the Queenstown Lakes District Council on the 14th May.

The 522m2 centre is the much anticipated ‘next step’ for Lakes Leisure Limited and will provide the community with a different and truly dynamic exercise facility.

The centre will feature a range of full cardio and weight training equipment and a variety of fitness programmes. Overlooking Alpine Aqualand and adjacent to the Queenstown Events Centre, it will be a ‘one stop shop’ enabling users to reap the full benefits of its Frankton location with car parking and sporting facilities – the swimming pool, soccer, rugby and cricket fields, and indoor and outdoor multi-purpose courts.

Facilities Manager Cam Sheppard says Lakes Leisure has taken community wishes on board in providing an all-encompassing fitness facility in Frankton.

“As well as gym and pool facilities, we’ll also be offering a variety of programmes such as circuit training and sports-specific training for the likes of local skiers and endurance athletes.

“The cold winter months can make outdoor training difficult, especially in our alpine environment, so it’s essential to be able to offer a ‘one stop shop’ four season fitness facility where our customers can swim, workout and play a variety of indoor and outdoor sports,” he says.

Lakes Leisure CEO Fiona McKissock says memberships and casual visits will be priced in line with current market rates. The Health and Fitness Centre will cater for community needs and will ultimately enable Lakes Leisure to reduce its reliance on rates funding.

Construction and fit-out timelines are currently being confirmed. Lakes Leisure will announce more details once the project is approved.
