Welcome to the last edition of At Your Leisure for 2009. There’s some great news for rugby fans – tickets for the massive Super 14 clash between the Highlanders and Western Force at the Queenstown Events Centre are now on sale. We’re also expecting an announcement next week whether the Queenstown Events Centre will play a role in team hosting for the Rugby World Cup 2011.

Christmas
is in full swing at Queenstown Events Centre. Bring the family down for
heaps of festive activities in support of Wakatipu High School’s Year
10 Branches Camp.
Visit Santa’s Grotto The Shotover Jet Christmas Tree Grotto
in our foyer is now adorned with 30 beautiful trees. Each is sponsored
and decorated by a local organisation so vote for your favourite for
just the cost of a donation to Branches.
Santa will be in the grotto to hear Christmas wishes between 11am-2pm Thursday to Saturday until 21 December.
Place a bid, make a wish You can place bids in our silent auction
until 13 December and be in to win some fantastic prizes including a
family pass for the Highlanders’ Super 14 game, plus a signed ball.
Children can also make their very own wish upon a special star that will decorate the hoamz Christmas Wishing Tree
until 11 December. Two lucky winners will be picked to have their wish
granted live on stage at both the 1pm and 5pm performances of the Shotover Jet Remarkable Christmas Spectacular concert on 13 December.
Spectacular Concert Erin
Simpson, star of TV2’s ‘The Erin Simpson Show’, is making a special
guest appearance at the fun-packed family shows. Joining Erin on stage
are a host of local favourites including the Remarkables Men's Ballet
Company, returning by popular demand.

Holiday opening hours We’ll be busy opening prezzies on Christmas Day so all Lakes Leisure facilities around the region will be closed.
In addition, Queenstown Events Centre, Alpine Aqualand, Alpine Health & Fitness and Wanaka Community Pool will all be closing at 5pm on both Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.
If you fancy a swim on New Year’s Day then head down to Arrowtown Memorial Pool which will be open as normal. All other Lakes Leisure facilities will be closed.
Wanaka Community Pool will also be closed on Boxing Day and 2 January but other facilities will be open as normal on these days.

Health & Fitness members please note that Play Time sessions will
finish after Friday 18 December and start again on Monday 11 January
2010.

There’s heaps happening at the Lake Wanaka Centre in the run up to New Year.
On 12 December the Centre will be transformed into the ‘Straw Bale Saloon’ for more than nine hours of live country music, food, drink and great entertainment including the final of ‘This Country’s Got Talent’.
The following Saturday (19 December) a festive carol service organized by the combined churches will usher in Christmas week in traditional style.
Then, just before the town’s New Year celebrations, there’s a special fashion launch on 29 December showcasing a local designer’s collection for the coming season with live music and DJs.

Fitness classes are go! Our new Alpine Health & Fitness studio has been super busy since opening last month. It’s a friendly and affordable facility that fulfils our original vision for an integrated health, fitness, sports and events facility in one location.
A full programme of Les Mills fitness classes has now started so grab yourself a fitness class timetable and come along!
Remember that gym membership includes unlimited access to all equipment and classes as well as Lakes Leisure’s three swimming pools around the region.

Salomon Southern Tri Series There’s still time to get involved in the Salomon Southern Tri series this summer with three races left at Lake Hayes (27 December and 2 April) and Paradise (21 February).
Each involves a swim (or kayak), bike and run but distances aren’t too long and you can compete as an individual or a team. The series is a great way to give triathlon a go whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned athlete, so what are you waiting for?

School Holiday Programme – register now Bookings are now open for our fun-packed programmes for juniors (5-7 years) and seniors (8-12 years) over the school holidays. There’s a whole range of daily activities to keep kids happy including movies, board games, fancy dress parties, drama, art and sport.
The Oscar accredited programme runs Monday to Friday from 21 December to 24 December, then from 5 January to 3 February.
Programme hours 8.30am-3.30pm (drop off permitted between 8.30-9.30). Daily prices from $22 (juniors) and $25 (seniors). Late session 3.30-5.10pm (additional cost $10 per session).

Improvements at Lake Hayes Work to improve grounds and extend facilities at Lake Hayes Pavilion will take place in the New Year.
The
shingle car park will be replaced by an asphalt surface with kerbs,
timber bollards and channelling, while landscaping and paving will
create a hard area for marquees on the lakeside of the main building.
Bookings will remain unaffected but access will change to the second entrance closer to the Arrowtown turnoff.
