9 Jul 2010 - Sophie
Feel the adrenaline of the Tour de France with new Wind Training sessions on this month at Alpine Heath and Fitness.
Cycle fans can simulate all the action of the Tour de France 2010 with a unique and exhilarating spin class being held during replayed screenings of the famous race.
Classes are scheduled throughout the competition in the Mezzanine Function Room at the Queenstown Events Centre with morning sessions being held at 6am on Monday 12 and 19 and Friday 16 and 23 July. Evening sessions are at 7pm on Wednesday 14 and 21 July.
Cyclists are invited to experience the thrill from the comfort of their own saddle by bringing along their bike and wind trainer to set up a stationary racing bike.
Lakes Leisure Health & Fitness Manager Richie Heap said the innovative new wind training sessions have been specially designed to cater for the many cycle fanatics in the Queenstown region.
“There are so many avid cyclists around the region who are following the Tour de France. This innovative class brings fellow cyclists together and gets them involved with the excitement of the Tour, keeping their legs spinning during the winter months,” he said.
“People can bring their own bike and wind trainer along with their cycling buddies - and of course their great racing spirit.”
The 97th Tour de France (3-25 July) sees 198 international riders journey 3,642km from Rotterdam, Belgium around the French countryside to the finish line in Paris.
Wind training classes are free for Alpine Health and Fitness members and cost just $5 per session for non-members.
