Media Release - NZSki Step Up Programme proves huge success for teens

NZSki Step Up, the Wakatipu’s first fully sponsored health and fitness education programme for young, overweight teens wrapped up last night with ten local kids and their families having taken part. Lakes Leisure, in association with NZSki and a host of respected Queenstown health professionals, developed the programme for kids who needed support to take the first positive steps towards a healthy lifestyle change.

The Arrowtown Autumn Festival is also upon us with heaps of great free events for everyone like the Southland Times Street Parade and Arts & Craft market that are happening this Saturday. Check out the chocker block festival programme by clicking here but get your event tickets quickly as things are starting to sell out! ANZAC Day is also coming up on Wednesday 25 April. The Queenstown Events Centre will be opening later in respect of the fallen soldiers from 12pm-8pm. All the facilities will be operating except Aqualand Swim School & Play Time Child Care. Alpine Health & Fitness will be running only the BodyPump 5pm & RPM 6pm group fitness classes on ANZAC Day. The large TRENZ marquee will be built in the main QEC car park on Wednesday 25 April until Thursday 17 May. Enjoy the Autumn Festival everyone!

Easter and the school holidays are nearly here - to celebrate the start of the holidays, the hydroslide & giant inflatable will be open all Good Friday afternoon at Alpine Aqualand! So bring the kids down any time after 12 noon and BYO hot cross buns! All facilities except for Aqualand Swim School & Play Time Child Care will be open over Easter.

Element AvantiPlus and Alpine Aqualand have given away the last two of four bikes won during the Slide & Ride summer promotion. Mumtaz Khan, 27, of Frankton was the lucky winner of an AvantiPlus adult’s bike and Abbie Harrison, 10, of Alexandra, won the AvantiPlus child’s bike.

Also, just a reminder that we're open every day except Christmas & New Year’s Day? So we are open this coming Monday 26 March (Otago Anniversary Day) and all facilities, with the exception of Aqualand & Wanaka Swim Schools & Play Time, will be open for public holiday hours. Special arrangements have been made for Boxing Bootcamp & Spartan participants – your trainers will provide you with the details at tomorrow morning’s training session. At Your Leisure: Free Personal Training Tool Demo Day | Home Show, Car Park + ANZA | Triathlons Galore | Kids Sport

Busy times are ahead at the Queenstown Events Centre! The ANZA Trade Show is coming to town at the end of February and a marquee will be set up in the main car park to accommodate them with extra space. This is Australasia’s largest trade show for buyers & sellers of education, work, youth and student travel so having them here is a fantastic win for Queenstown all round. Once the trade show finishes, the car park will be closed for a further two weeks as the final phase of its upgrade takes place. The new car park design will incorporate the community’s requests for more pedestrian crossings, footpaths, lighting and other added safety features. We’re also sad to say goodbye to the poplars which have been deemed unsafe due to rot, and the pin oaks which need to be removed to make way for the new footpaths, but some lovely new trees will be planted in similar locations to help replace them.
