Leisurelys CLASS DESCRIPTION

AQUAFIT: Add water to your workout with a water-based class especially for active seniors. An AQUAFIT workout is a great way to improve aerobic fitness, develop strength and burn fat without the impact, making it easier on muscles and joints. Team this with great music and good company for a fun afternoon!

Leisurelys_Gym.jpgGYM: Grab the opportunity to try out the Alpine Health & Fitness gym with this session. Collect a programme from the instructor and have a go at using the fantastic equipment while you work on both cardio-vascular fitness and strength. There are a variety of programmes available targeting arms, legs or both so there really is something for everyone! The instructor is there to show you how the gadgets work so you don’t need to be a gym buff to attend.

Leisurelys_Circuit.jpg

CIRCUIT: Variety is the spice of life! That’s why our circuit class changes each week. Designed to build both your cardiovascular fitness and strength using a variety of exercises with hand weights, elastic tubing and swiss balls. We even throw in the odd bit of fancy footwork. This class is specifically designed so you can leave out the exercise for a certain body part if need be and is a great place to start if you’re just getting into exercises. Run in conjunction with Central Tickers.

Leisurelys_Balance.jpgBALANCE: A gentle class designed for those who have had a fall or are at risk of falling. Run by a physiotherapist for the Lakes District Hospital our BALANCE class includes mobility, leg strengthening and balance exercises to help you stay on your feet. Run in conjunction with the Southern District Health Board. If you are up for a bit of a challenge try BODYVIVE, an all around low-impact workout that lets you choose just how hard you work. Targeting cardio fitness, strength and flexibility, you don’t need to be fit; just physically active and able to move freely. You’ll find your strength & agility improves over a number of sessions.

Leisurely_Tai_Chi.jpg

TAI CHI: Designed to improve mobility, flexibility and balance, Tai Chi involves a series of slow, fluid, gentle movements based on a ancient form of exercise that has been practiced for hundreds of years. Tai Chi has been shown to promote relaxation and prevent falls through improvement in balance reactions and lower limb strength. A perfect class for beginners – no experience needed!

BODYVIVE: If you are up for a bit of a challenge try this! An all around low-impact workout that lets you choose just how hard you work. Targeting cardio fitness, strength and flexibility, you don’t need to be fit; just physically active and able to move freely. You’ll find your strength & agility improves over a number of sessions.
