The Process
QLDC is giving consideration to the feedback received during their Long Term Plan (LTP) (2012/2022) process.
Once drafted the Council’s LTP (2012/2022) will outline the provisions made for community sport and recreation and this will also be publically consulted on by the QLDC in early 2012. The timing and cost of all sports, arts and leisure projects across the District will be considered as part of this LTP process.
The main issues that were consulted on were:
1. Land Use:
- What should the future use be for the recreation zoned land currently leased by the Frankton Golf Club until June 2012?
- Should the Council owned land between Grants Road and QEC be preserved for future community sports fields?
2. Facilities Development:
- Should the Council consider contributing to the funding of a stadium extension that would allow for more community sport and a multi-functional event venue in the district?
3. QEC Hub vs. Satellite Sports Fields:
- Should Lakes Leisure continue to develop QEC as a sports and recreation hub or develop satellite sports fields around the district?
Please note the QEC MFP is a Lakes Leisure document. The Queenstown Lakes District Council (QLDC) neither support nor oppose the content of the MFP, but do fully support Lakes Leisure in this public consultation of the issues and proposed developments.
